Kung Fu Nuns, Nepalese Biker Gang Cycling for Social Justice
These 500 women call themselves Kung Fu nuns, because they’re strong as heck and there’s no telling them what they can’t do.
These Buddhists cycled more than 2,400 miles from Nepal to Northern India. To put it in perspective – that’s like biking the California coast three times!
"People think that because we are nuns, we are supposed to stay in the temples and pray all the time. But praying is not enough."
Their goal is to bring more attention to the huge human trafficking problem in South Asia. They set up meetings with big government peeps along their trail. And, while they were at it, brought food and medical care to the poor.
This decision to be stewards of the land and its people aligns perfectly with their Buddhist beliefs. “His Holiness teaches us that we have to go out and act on the words that we pray. After all, actions speak louder than words,” says one nun.
Also, they just wanted to make the point that “women have power and strength like men.”
Point proven.
